About the Menz Shed
The Menz Shed of Kaiapoi has 51 members and is one of approximately 142 sheds located across New Zealand. The shed meets 9am to noon on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with attendance usually of 25 to 30 members.
Men's Mental health.
Men don't tend to make friends the same way as women. At the Shed is a chance to meet with other guys, sit down and have a Cuppa and biscuit. We usually get approximately 30 people having different skills and from various countries with differing backgrounds. There are many interesting stories. Some arrive by mobility scooter. Some of the guys are now living on their own. The shed has a positive feel. We are a mixture of guys!

Projects in the Community- such as the figures installed on the bridge to mark Anzac Day, Matariki Day, Canterbury Day and others. These were financed by “All Together Kaiapoi” made by the Shed, installed and taken down by the members according to a schedule. There are they community watch signs that are put up by our team. There's other signs put up for the Community Garden and The Food Forest.
Community Projects- these are projects requested by Kaiapoi people. A cat enclosure fabricated and installed for one lady. Another requested assistance to have plastic laid down and gravel spread on top. Another was a garage door repair.

The Repair Shed. These are the kitchen chairs and tables and other pieces of furniture that come in for some TLC. A rarity was a Polyphon in for a minor repair. The table came in for repair and revarnishing by the paint shop guys. The garden seat was a complete rebuild, another an upholstery repair.
Shed Projects- are projects such as tables for the Ohoka School and shelters for the Kaiapoi Bowling Club. The Shelters were built by the guys in the metal work shop.
Personal Projects - carried out by the members are many and varied. These include building a model boat, building bookshelves and building guitar cases.
Home Projects - an important benefit of the Shed is the ability to call on the goodwill of members to assist with projects at home such as repairs to fences, shortening doors after new carpet laid, minor painting etc.

Other Activities- It is not all work with the Shed. In addition to the morning Cuppa at the Shed- sometimes with extra cakes from grateful customers, there are BBQs at the Shed, visits to other Menz Sheds, also the Kaiapoi Menz Shed has dinners at a local restaurant twice a year.
